How the stone is finished

Table polish on the Kota line

The slab goes on the table and the head comes down onto it. From there it is the operator, not the machine, that decides the result — how long the head dwells, how hard it presses, where it goes back over. He is reading the face as it comes up and correcting as he goes.

That hand control is the whole reason this line exists. Table polish stops one grade short of a full mirror, at a satin sheen, and holding an even sheen across a face this size is not something a fixed pass does well. It is slower per slab than the diamond line, and it is the right line for work where the finish has to look consistent piece to piece.

Diamond polishing line, water-fed

The heads run the length of the slab under water that never stops. The water is not for show: it carries the cut-off material away and keeps both the head and the stone cool. A head allowed to run dry burns the face, and a burnt face does not polish out.

The grit steps down through the sequence — coarse first to take the saw marks off, then finer and finer until the surface stops scattering light and starts returning it. What comes off the end of the line is the mirror-class face you see stacked at the close of the clip.
