How Kota sizes work
Fixed sizes, stepping every six inches
Kota stone is not sold as random bed-run material. It is sawn to a set of standard sizes that step in six-inch increments — 2′ × 2′, 2.5′ × 2′, 3′ × 2′, 4′ × 2′, 5′ × 2.5′ and so on — up to 8 feet long and 4 feet wide. Anything outside that grid is cut to your drawing.

Reading this table
"Sq ft per piece" is the finished face area — multiply it by your piece count to get the area, or divide your floor area by it to get the pieces. Sizes step every six inches in both directions, and the rate per square foot rises with the size. Anything off this grid is cut to your drawing.

These are the cut-to-size modules that run through our unit as routine work — squares, borders, risers and treads. We cut them in Kota limestone, Mandana sandstone, Kandla Grey, Raj Green and black basalt. Anything not on this list is cut to your drawing.

Why there are two square-foot columns
The first is what the piece actually covers on the floor. The second is what it bills at, because Kota is measured pemaish — each side rounded up to the next six-inch step. A 22″ × 22″ square covers 3.36 sq ft and bills as 4. That gap is not a markup; it is how the whole Ramganjmandi trade quotes, and a quote that ignores it is not comparable with one that does not. Our calculator shows both figures side by side.
Other cutting sizes are made to customer requirement. Send the drawing or the schedule and we cut to it — treads, risers, sills, copings, counters and any module in between.
Thickness
Two standard bands, and what they weigh
Almost everything we ship goes out in one of two thickness bands. For the stone itself both are quoted at broadly the same rate per square foot, because Kota sells by area rather than by volume. What separates them is weight — and therefore freight.

The step is regular. Every 7 mm of thickness adds or removes about 1.9 kg per square foot. That is exactly what separates the two standard bands — 18–25 mm and 25–32 mm are 7 mm apart and 5.25 kg and 7.15 kg respectively — and the same step carries on in both directions, which is how the thinner and thicker rows above are worked out. The two standard bands are quoted at broadly the same stone rate; the cut-to-order thicknesses above and below them are not, because there the rate does follow the thickness.

Give it a floor area, or a slab size in inches or feet. A 46″ × 22″ piece is 1,012 sq in ÷ 144 = 7.0278 sq ft, which at 5.25 kg per sq ft is about 36.9 kg a piece. Add a piece count and it gives you the load.
Weights are the loaded averages we plan freight with. Uncalibrated Kota carries about 5–7 mm of thickness variation, so an actual consignment can run either side of these figures. Truck loads are counted at 22 tonnes.

How much to order
Quantities and wastage
Order the whole quantity in one go. Stone from a different bed or a different month will not match, and running 200 sq ft short at the end of a job is a genuinely expensive problem.

Tolerances
What we hold to.
- Calibrated thickness — ±1 mm.
- Uncalibrated thickness — roughly 5 to 7 mm of variation across a lot. That is normal for sawn Kota, not a fault; the mason absorbs it in the bed, or the floor is ground flat in place afterwards.
- Full slab length and width — up to 1 inch under the nominal size, on each side. A slab sold as 4′ × 2′ measures anywhere from 47″ to 48″ on the long side and 23″ to 24″ on the short one, and the same holds at every size. It is billed at the full nominal figure, so a 4′ × 2′ bills as 8 sq ft while covering 7.51 to 8.00. Allow for it in your piece count. This applies to full slabs only.
- Cut-to-size length and width — ±1 mm.
- Squareness — within 1 mm across a 600 mm diagonal.
- Riven and hand-cut units — irregular by design; nominal size only.
If your detail needs tighter than this, tell us at quotation stage rather than at delivery. Most tolerances are achievable; they just change the price and the lead time.

What thickness is Kota stone available in, in mm?

For the stone itself both are quoted at broadly the same rate per square foot, because Kota sells by area rather than by volume — what changes between them is weight, and therefore freight. Thinner than 18 mm and thicker than 32 mm are both cut to order, and there the rate does follow the thickness.
What is the difference between calibrated and non-calibrated Kota stone?
Uncalibrated Kota carries roughly 5 to 7 mm of thickness variation across a lot — that is the nature of sawn stone, not a defect. The mason packs it out in the mortar bed, or the floor is ground flat in place afterwards. Calibrated stone is machine-ground to one exact gauge so it can be laid thin-bed on adhesive with minimal packing. Calibration costs more per square foot and on a large floor saves more in mason time than it costs.
What sizes does Kota stone come in?
Kota is sawn to fixed sizes that step in six-inch increments — 2′ × 2′, 2.5′ × 2′, 3′ × 2′, 4′ × 2′, 5′ × 2.5′ and so on — up to 8 feet long and 4 feet wide. It is not sold as random bed-run material. The rate per square foot rises as the size rises, because large sound pieces are scarcer and harder to handle. The common finished squares are 22″ × 22″ and 23″ × 23″. Anything off that grid we cut to your drawing. One thing to plan for: those sizes are nominal. A full slab is sawn to within about an inch of them, so a 4′ × 2′ measures 47–48″ by 23–24″ and bills at the full 8 sq ft while covering 7.51 to 8.00. Cut-to-size pieces are exact; the variation is a full-slab thing.
How much does Kota stone weigh per square foot?
About 5.25 kg per square foot in the 18–25 mm band and about 7.15 kg in the 25–32 mm band. The step is regular: every 7 mm of thickness adds or removes roughly 1.9 kg per square foot, so a 32–39 mm slab runs about 9.05 kg and an 11–18 mm one about 3.35 kg. That is roughly 36% more to carry for the same floor area, which is why the two bands can be the same stone rate and still land at different delivered prices.
