Mandana Honed
Mandana sandstone ground flat to a smooth, low-sheen matte. The honed face keeps the stone's soft rose tone without the glare or the slip of a polish.
Ground flat to a soft matte
About Mandana Honed
Honing takes the sawn face down through progressively finer abrasive heads and stops before the surface starts to reflect. What you get is dead flat, evenly matte, and comfortable to walk on barefoot — the finish most people actually want when they say ‘polished’ and then change their mind after seeing a mirror floor in daylight.
The tone is a soft rose to dusty pink-mauve. That is the honest colour of our honed Mandana and it is what the photograph on this page shows — our own piece, not a sample board. Wet or sealed it deepens noticeably towards a warmer red-brown, so wet a corner of any sample before you decide.
Because it is silica-based rather than calcareous, Mandana takes honing differently to a limestone. The surface stays slightly open, which means it holds grip better than a honed marble and hides scuffing far better than any polish. For interior floors that see real traffic it is the most forgiving Mandana finish we run.
